TAG’S MISSION

The Technology Alliance Group (TAG) was founded as a 501(c)6 non-profit organization in 1999 and has fostered technology and innovation in NW Washington for the last 19 years. TAG has changed as the tech industry in our region has evolved, from helping businesses by advocating for broadband access and tax incentives to providing support for economic development initiatives to forming partnerships with our colleges to bridge the gap between business and academia.

Today, TAG has more than 3,000 stakeholders and is committed to its mission is engage, inspire and support the local tech community.

Community Connections + Events

Working with all types of local professionals and companies as well as our local and state representatives to build our tech community with events that attract business leaders from around the NW, different networking opportunities and a variety of professional development activities.

Infrastructure + Economic Development

Advocating for the tech community’s access to improved tech and business infrastructure and sitting on the Port of Bellingham, Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce and Choose Whatcom advocacy and economic development groups.

Helping Businesses

TAG is a 501(c)6 organization that advocates to local, state and federal government representatives for policies and laws that strengthen and support all tech companies and their ability to do business (taxes, facilities, parking, traffic).

Workforce + Educational Development

Working with our region’s higher education institutions to ensure we have a well-trained and skilled talent base for companies to draw on for employees.

WHAT’S COMING IN 2019

1. ANNUAL EVENTS

  • Predictions with Mark Anderson – Winter
    Each January this event draws 150+ attendees from throughout our region, with expanded reach through live streaming.
  • Tech Bash Scholarship Fundraiser – Summer
    Each summer TAG holds this event to raise money for 5 local college scholarships awarded in late-June and to celebrate our tech community.
  • Tech Expo + Job Fair – Fall
    Timed to be in-line with internship and new year hiring schedules, this annual event attracts over 350 industry professionals, job seekers, students and community members who highlight success stories, connect and learn about our innovative tech community.
  • Tech Summit – Fall
    Held in late fall, Tech Summit is the premier technology conference in NW Washington. Attracting more than 25 speakers and 100 attendees, Tech Summit is  TAG’s main annual event.

2. MONTHLY EVENTS

  • Tech Talks
    We are restarting monthly lunch time tech talks, inviting speakers from the Cascadia Innovation Corridor to present innovative and inspiring presentations  to our local community.
  • Student Tech Talks
    Working with Western Washington University and Whatcom Coummity College, TAG will be working with local tech companies to help them engage with students in the computer science and related tech fields.
  • TAG Community Groups
    We are helping to bring together different groups within our local tech community who share common interests or work in similar fields to have recurring meet-ups.

3. OTHER PLANS:

  • Membership Benefits
    We are currently working to improve TAG Membership benefits to give our stakeholders relevant and interactive incentives to join our organization and community.
  • C-Level Gatherings
    These informal gatherings will provide tech leaders with a regular opportunity to come together and exchange ideas.
  • Expanding TAG’s Appeal
    We will be looking to expand TAG’s base by broadening our appeal to include companies outside of Bellingham and those in other tech-related industries, such as tech manufacturing.
  • Student Appathons
    Working with business partners and government organization, we intend to host high school and college appathon challenges.
  • Have fun!

Technology empowers businesses and is a catalyst for the future growth of our community. It makes sense for TAG to play an important part in attracting innovation companies and professionals to move to and grow in our region. TAG’s Economic Development Outreach Committee (TEDO), our local and regional events and TAG’s inclusion in local economic development groups means we get to effectively advocate for our tech community.
