Linuxfest Northwest

Don't miss Linux fest Northwest 2009
April 25 - 26,
Bellingham Technical College

- includes
TAG's Security SIG meeting on Saturday 11-11:45AM.

Please join TAG in attending the biggest technology conference in the Northwest corner of WA this coming Saturday and Sunday April 25 and 26 from 9:30-5PM. Linuxfest Northwest, now in its tenth year, attracts about 800 people annually from all over the Pacific Northwest. It is always a fun and interesting event for anybody interested in software technology and open-source technology in particular.

LFNW is the showcase for what people in the Northwest are doing with Linux and open source software. In addition to exhibitors showcasing their technology there will be presentations and lectures throughout the day.  This year speaker roaster include the leading open source experts Michael 'Monty' Widenius, author of the MySQL and Jon "Maddog" Hall who in collaboration with Linus Torvalds conceived the first port of Linux to make Linux a 64-bit OS.

TAG's Security SIG will host their April Meeting at the fest on Saturday from 11-11:45AM.  The meeting features Gary Smith of Pacific Northwest National Laboratory who will present "The Next Stage in Linux IDS - Prelude-IDS and Audit".  Last year at LinuxFestNW, Gary presented a paper on a Linux host intrusion detection system (HIDS). In that paper, he alluded to the next stage in HIDS based on Prelude-IDS and Auditd. Well, the stage has arrived! This paper explains the benefits of Prelude-IDS and Audit and why this next stage leaves the old one at the depot.

There is something for all ages and skill levels at the Linuxfest Northwest including robots, video games and conceptual progamming for young folks - so bring the kids!

TAG will have an exhibit table at the event and we are happy to take any volunteers in staffing the booth. If you are interested please pick a time slot from the volunteer schedule below and email/call Anna Ehnmark at aehnmark@tagnw.org or 360-647-4220.
