About Center of American Studies and Border Policy Research Institute

The Center for Canadian American Studies, located in Canada House at Western Washington University, offers a comprehensive program for the study of Canada in the United States. In consortium with the Canadian Studies Center at the University of Washington, our Center is one of only two U.S. Department of Education designated National Resource Centers for the study of Canada in the United States.

We coordinate a multidisciplinary undergraduate program; organize seminars and symposia on cross-border issues of interest to both nations; promote research on Canadian topics in the social sciences and humanities; and conduct extensive outreach to K-12 and post-secondary educators as well as to the business and local community, media and cultural organizations.

The Border Policy Research Institute (BPRI) is a multi-disciplinary research institute at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington. The BPRI focuses on research that informs policy-makers on matters related to the Canada - U.S. border. Priority focus areas are trade and transportation, economics, environment, immigration, and border security. The University established the BPRI to further a mission of promoting research, academic programs, and public programming on critical policy issues affecting the Pacific Northwest. The BPRI works closely with cognate programs at the University and collaborates with many public and private entities within the Pacific Northwest.
