WWU Plastics Engineering Technology Open House 2008
On April 24, 2008 the Engineering Technology Department of Western Washington University invites industry to attend the annual Open House. This year, it is jointly sponsored by the Society for the Plastics Industry Western Region and the Society for Plastics Engineers Pacific NW section. The Open House features many events occurring concurrently, including presentations, tours, projects, and a lunch.
The focus for this year is discussing mechanisms/resources for companies to recruit WWU students. The target group for this event is engineers, managers, and human resources staff.

- 12:30 lecture - "Film Insert Molding" lecture by Pat Griffin from Bayer Films (ET 107)
- 1:00 presentation/discussion - "Advanced Material Science and Engineering Center" brief presentation and discussion of industry needs and opportunities for industry-university research collaborations by Dr. David Patrick, Director. The AMSEC was officially established and financially supported by the State of Washington. (ET 204).
- Learn about our research with PACCAR using Reaction Injection Molding. (ET 110).
- See Drekkar - the award-winning two-man, underwater, composite submarine that competed at the 2006 ASME Human Powered Submarine Race in San Diego (ET 122).
- See Valkyrie - the Composite Speed Bicycle that competed at the West Coast Human Powered Vehicle Challenge in California. (ET 112)
- See the nine molds that were designed and built in the Tooling class and financially supported by SPI (ET 1st Floor Hall)
- Ocean-Inspired Children's Furniture made from plywood for mass-production (ET 344)
- See the Alcohol Stove project that competed at SME's WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge (ET 138)
- Western won a $75,000 grant from the EPA to further develop a working biomethane refinery for scrubbing methane for use in vehicles. (ET 152)
