Volunteers needed for Math masters
Math Masters will start up again this fall at Whatcom Middle School and we need volunteers from the business community. The goal of the Math Masters program is to tutor students that failed math WASL. As a volunteer you will commit to 1 hour of tutoring a week.

When
- Start date 10/23 or 10/30/07
- Orientation 10/30/07 3:15PM
- Tuesdays and Thursdays 3:15 – 4:15PM
- End date late April 2008
Where
- WMS library
Who
- Students selected by their math teachers for failing math WASL (~50-75)
- ~12 Business people for 1 hour/week (6 on Tuesday, 6 on Thursday)
- 1 Business person for 1 hour/week (either Tuesday or Thursday) for Math Olympiad students (~10)
How
- Students grouped by grade (~10-15/grade)
- Business people will be assigned by grade
- ~10 Olympiad students (assuming we can find a leader)
- Weekly updates from math teachers to Ned, regarding their curriculum and need for skills development
- Ned Hanah (Whatcom Middle School) will email business people by grade identifying curriculum and students requiring specific skills development.
- Business volunteers will assist with homework completion, answering questions, etc.
- Cognitive software will be used primarily for students requiring specific skill development as indicated by Ned/teachers
Other
- Snacks will be provided at tables and students will begin homework immediately at 3:15PM
- Current math books will be provided to Business people, depending on the grade they are assisting
- Math Olympiad competition event in February
