TAG Northwest            tag_montage2_small.jpg

Dear Members & Guests:

MatthewDunnPromo2.jpgIf you think your technology, product, or business could make a huge payoff if you -just- had the capital to roll it out...and you've thought about venture capital as a way to get there...then you should attend TAG's lunch meeting on Friday, September 21st.  We are very pleased to invite Matthew Dunn, PhD and owner of Socratech Consulting to talk on the topic: 'Wonders in Ventureland, OR, Prepping, Pitching and Using Venture Financing.' Matthew who recently returned from partial residence on Alaska Air, running venture-funded startup Music IP in Southern California, will share some hard-won lessons and recommendations about the venture financing cycle.

This will be a popular meeting so please RSVP by clicking as soon as possible.

Date and Time: Friday, September 21, from 12:00 - 1:15 pm.

Location: DIS building at 1315 Cornwall Ave., Bellingham, WA

Cost: Free for members, $10.00 at door for non-members to cover lunch.

According to Matthew obtaining and utilizing venture financing is a complex business process, fraught with more uncertainty and emotion than almost anything else.  The profile of VCs went up in the dot-com boom, and has stayed up with recent buyouts like Skype and MySpace. This talk will cover key points about the entire cycle of venture investment. These include:

  • assessment - deciding whether venture is right for your business - and whether your business is right for venture.
  • preparation - what presentations, documents, and answers should you have ready?
  • negotiation lite - how VCs and entrepeneurs each approach deal structures (and what you can do to help yourself)
  • codependence - living with your new partner, and the complicated board and business relationships that result
